Blastrac recently carried out a project of pipe blasting for windmills in Portugal with its 900VMB vertical steel blasting machine.

It was used in combination with the 900DC Blastrac dust collector. The objective was to both clean & create texture on the external part of the pipes before applying a new coating. The final results were very successful as the machine generated a nice, clean profile (SA 2,5). You can see below a picture showing the difference between the original surface & the blasted surface.
The Blastrac 900VMB is a highly effective option over manual open-blasting. Our 900VMB vertical steel blaster works in closed circuit, so there is no dust released in the environment. In addition the abrasive is recycled which make the steel blasting process really cost effective.
The Vertical Steel Blasting Project
Below is some information about the project we’ve recently carried out with our 900VMB Blastrac vertical steel blaster.
External blasting on pipe of diameter 1.300 mm
-Average performance: 1 m2/ min
-Average roughness with shot (S460) only: 20 – 50 microns (µ) with SA 2,5
-Average roughness with shot (S460) and 25% grit (GP18) : 100 – 150 microns (µ) with SA 2,5
-Normal steel
External blasting on pipe of diameter 2.500 mm
-Average performance: 1 m2/ min
-Average roughness with shot (S460) and 25% grit (GP18): 100 – 150 microns (µ) with SA 2,5
-Mill scale
